If you have recently moved into a new home, you may be wondering who your new neighbors are and what is the best way to get to know them. Parry Custom Homes, a local Pittsburgh on your lot builder, shares simple ways to get to know your new neighbors and have fun while doing so!
A great and fun way to get to know your new neighbors is to throw a housewarming party at your new home. Not only does this give you a reason to ring their doorbell to introduce yourself and invite them, but it will give them a good first impression and give you the opportunity to talk to them for a longer period than just an initial introduction.
Even if you are the new neighbor moving in, consider bringing your neighbors a treat such as your famous homemade chocolate chip cookies. Not only will this be an ice breaker for you to stop by their home and introduce yourself, but you are sure to gain more friends than enemies with a friendly gift!
If you have a good size backyard, you can even take advantage of the nice summer weather and throw a backyard get together so you don’t have to be rushed or feel pressure to setup your new home after you have moved in.
Another way to get to know your neighbors if you have kids, is to introduce your kids to the new neighbors and see if you can set up play dates together. If you have a neighborhood park, just taking your kids there for fun afternoon can put them (and you) in touch with other kids and parents in the neighborhood quickly. Kids often have no trouble making friends at the playground and it can be a good ice breaker for you to get to know fellow parents who may have kids the same age as you.
Another thing to check when you move in or if your neighborhood is an HOA are any community events you can attend or ways you can get involved in your neighborhood. Many neighborhoods have community Facebook pages or are a part of an online neighborhood group that posts events going on in the community that you can join or volunteer to join.
And remember, if you have new neighbors move in after you do treat them with the same respect and bring them a friendly welcome to the neighborhood treat or gift and introduce yourself. It is always a good idea to get off on the right foot with new neighbors and if you are lucky, even have them turn into good friends!
