Each season that comes around also seems to come with a list of home maintenance tips that you should do for the upcoming season, to keep your house in good condition. Now that fall is on officially in full swing and Thanksgiving is less thank a week away, it is time to pay attention to the fall maintenance items that should be on your to do list this fall season. Parry Custom Homes, a premier Pittsburgh on your lot builder, shares fall maintenance tips that are easy to do and will keep your home in top shape for many seasons to come when executed each season!
A good first fall maintenance tip is to schedule a furnace maintenance call. Once the cold season strikes, your local HVAC service is going to be busy making house calls. Prevent being on a waiting list by getting a head start early and having someone come out and make sure your furnace is running properly. Typically, you can also get better deals in the late summer when you catch any issue opposed to the prime season in the colder months. The last thing you want to run into when hosting friends or family this holiday season is a cold house because your systems aren’t running properly!
The second tip starts on the interior of your home. Before you turn on the heat for the first time when cooler weather rolls in, be sure to check all of your safety devices to ensure the work properly. Replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide detectors and your smoke detectors to make sure they are running properly.
It is also to replace the batteries to these devices at the same time. Another easy tip that many people don’t think about is to make sure your fire extinguisher is not expired.
On the outside of your home, take a look around your home and check for any cracks in your homes foundation and seal them if necessary. Also close up any cracks in your foundation near windows or doors, because those can also let in critters like mice once the cold kicks in.
Do a check of your roof as well and make sure there aren’t any problems before the cold of winter rolls in. Any loose shingles should be replaced and you should also do a check of your gutters while you are on the roof to make sure they are clean and not filled with leaves or debris.
Lastly, before the cold weather hits this fall do yourself a favor and replace your door and window screens with storm windows. As an added benefit, add weather stripping to doors and windows to help keep cool air from seeping inside.
These simple fall maintenance tips will ensure you stay warm in your home when cold weather strikes.
