Garage Size and Home Sales

If you plan on putting your home on the market any time soon, now is a better time than ever to declutter and clean out your garage. According to the Wall Street Journal, data compiled by researchers at Realtor.com found that the size of your home’s garage and affect the home’s asking price. Parry Custom Homes, a Pittsburgh custom builder, explains the findings and what they mean for a soon to be home on the market.

When realtor.com did an analysis on median listing prices per square foot, it looked at all single-family homes from January 1st to October 31st of this year to find out how much more sellers tend to ask per parking spot in their home.

There was a sharp rise for three-car garage homes, which were price 11.5% higher than those with a single parking spot. Most homes have two-car garages and those homes made up 65% of the listings in the study. Three-car garage homes tend to be larger and higher end, which bumps up the overall pricing.

This makes sense that homes with a seven-car capacity had a sharp increase at asking 31.4% more than one-car garage homes. The ability to park in the driveway and on the street of a home, also played a factor in that it was a nice feature to have, even if it was just a two-car garage.

Oddly enough, homes with two-car garages were 2.71% less expensive than homes that fit a single car. While this small difference is the result of mixing listings, single-car homes are more likely to be smaller places, which fetch a premium nationally on a per-square foot basis.

So, no matter the size of your homes garage, make one-car, two-car and above size garages look even bigger and more spacious, by having them cleaned out and decluttered before you put your home on the market. A clean and tidy garage will automatically look more spacious and appealing to a buyer, than a dirty and cramped garage which will leave buyers thinking the home doesn’t have enough space or storage to house all household needs.

When it comes time for you to shop for your new home, let Parry Custom Homes pair you with the perfect custom home to meet all of your needs!

How To Budget To Move Out

How To Budget To Move Out

Are you wanting to look for new homes in Pittsburgh but are stuck living at home because you don’t have enough money to move out on your own? Or, if you are a parent with a child who is no longer a child but still living at home, Parry Custom Homes has a budget strategy that can help both put a plan in place for the next chapter in life.

Did you know that according to the U.S. Census Bureau, 30 percent of people between 18 and 34 years of age still live at home with their parents? This ends up being about 42.2 million people. Another shocking number is that most of this number are college-educated adults.

It may be hard to believe, but more people are living with their parents now than there were in the recession. Many of those still living at home might be doing so to be bill-free and simply because they aren’t interested on branching off onto their own yet. However, for many still living at home, the desire is there to move out but financially it might not be plausible. However, with one budgeting trick, you or your child can be on your way to living independently sooner than you both may think.

Many parents don’t charge their children rent while living at home, in hopes that they will be able to actually save money living at home. The one simple trick is to start paying “rent” at your parents home. This not only allows you to get accustomed to start paying for a mortgage but also will allow you to builds a substantial savings account over the period of months.

Either setup a savings account or have your parents deposit your check into a separate savings account for you each month, which will, in the end, become the savings pot you can pay for your new home. This will also help you see what is an affordable mortgage for you to pay and comfortably live next month. You can even take it one step further and pay into utilities, cable, cell phones and so on to get a true feel for where your money goes each month and what you have to live off of.

2016 Design Trends

2016 Design Trends

Are you currently looking for a Pittsburgh on your lot builder or have you already found your perfect Parry Custom Home to move into? If so, one of the most fun parts of moving into your new home is being able to start with a blank canvas and decorating it however you please! With the New Year around the corner, why not get ahead of the crowd and start decorating your home with some of the décor trends 2016 has on the horizon!

After searching the best design resources, House Beautiful has determined the top design trends we can expect to see in 2016, and should be considered for your new home.

The first trend is going to be joining a “monthly club.” These are becoming more and more popular across the board for companies, and home design is no different. Think of it as décor at your door, because that literally is what you’ll be getting. You can subscribe to the monthly décor option of your choice, and have décor treats at your door each month to help brighten your home.

Pendant lighting is another thing you will definitely want to add to your home next year, if you don’t have any already. Gone are the days of traditional chandeliers or lighting fixtures and now is the day of gorgeous and unique statement pendant lights.

Next, the trend in bedding linens is to liven them up with pizazz. Gone are the days of stark white sheets in bedrooms and next year expect to see patterns upon patterns when it comes to bedding décor.

For your small corners, adding small yet tall pedestals is a great way to exhibit some home décor, a plant or a sculpture. It adds plenty of appeal while taking up minimal space.

The desk is making its comeback into homes as well in 2016. New styles of desks are being added to rooms in the home to take people off of searching their laptop from their bed, to retreating to a unique desk. There are high quality, high gloss options that look great and add great functionality to your home you didn’t even know you were lacking!

Another trend in 2016 will have you pulling out your grandmother’s tableware! The return of the traditional tableware will be returning to kitchens near you in 2016. So bring out your gravy boats and footed bowls. These will now be necessary members of your tablescape.

Mixing metals will also be on your to-do list for home décor to come. This means platinum, gold, copper and steel can all mesh together and look great. As long as it is metallic, it can go together in 2016.

Another wave making its return is fabric wall art. If you are a designer, you’ll ne thrilled to learn that Robert Allen is paper-backing almost all of its textiles for a flat fee from silks to damasks.

Lastly, getting better sleep is also among the trend list in 2016. How can this be incorporated via design you may ask? By purchasing technology in bedding that are designed to give you the best sleep possible. From Tempur-Contour pillows and Therapedic side sleepers that can help keep you cool at night if you are someone who gets warm in their sleep.

Incorporating one or more of these trends in your home décor for 2016 will have you ahead of your friends and neighbors, and leave them coming to you for design inspiration!
